Summary
Duggan was engaged as the general contractor to construct a new 48,000 square foot refrigerated distribution facility with an attached 12,000 square foot office building.
Having outgrown their existing facility, the client was in need of additional space but concerned about the added energy costs associated with an expansion. The Duggan team utilized multiple construction methodologies to help guarantee the new structure would deliver the highly energy efficient space the client desired.
In order to meet the client’s expectations and satisfy the subdivision trustees and city planning & zoning committee requirements, Duggan had to get creative. By sourcing a highly insulated metal panel with a fine aggregate chip laminate exterior finish, we were able to deliver a solution that satisfied all interested parties.
Additional efficiency was achieved through the design of a high-tech cold dock, utilizing special dock doors and levelers to allow truck ingress and egress without compromising the integrity of the controlled environmental space.
The new facility provided the client three times more area and four times more volume than the previous space. Despite the drastic size increase of the warehouse, the energy efficient materials and measures implemented by Duggan has allowed the client to cut energy costs by almost two thirds.
